Wyatt Busick | Faces of Midland

Moving Forward or Looking Back

You can’t move forward if you’re always looking back is advice Wyatt Busick received from his defensive line coach. In all walks of life, you will often find yourself missing a host of opportunities by letting the past dictate your life.

Growing up, Wyatt found himself moving frequently. With his dad helping get churches back on their feet, Wyatt and his family never stayed in one place very long. Wyatt points to sports as his one constant in shaping who he is today.

“Throughout my life, sports is what really helped shape me into the person I am today. When I was moving around a lot, sports allowed me to meet tons of new people in new places.”

Sports have been instrumental in Wyatt’s journey. Football has especially been impactful as it has offered him opportunities to develop strong relationships with people around him, including family.

“One thing that always stayed consistent for me throughout my life is sports, football specifically.  Sports has always been a passion of mine and has bonded me with many of my good friends, as well as my two younger brothers.”

Coming to Midland, Wyatt sought to continue his journey in sports. Impressed with the football team and school, Wyatt felt that Midland was where he would be able to balance both playing the sport he loves and pursuing his future career in sports marketing and sports agency.

“When looking into Midland, I really liked the coaches of the football team and the players as well. I also really liked how focused on hands-on experiences in your career field the curriculum is.”

Being a Warrior, Wyatt doubles down on the advice that his defensive line coach gave him. As a Warrior, Wyatt believes that continuing to move forward from past obstacles is important. Otherwise, you risk missing out on so much.

“Being a Warrior to me means giving your best at everything you do.  I also think that it means pushing through adversity.”

Wyatt Busick is a freshman sports marketing and management major from Kansas City, Kansas. To share your story or nominate a friend, email social@midlandu.edu or post using #FacesofMidland.
