Music Education Certification

Get ready for a rewarding career as a music educator! Our faculty has a combined 130+ years of Elementary and Secondary Music Education experience. Small class sizes, individual attention, and emphasis on practical experiences will prepare you for the “real world” of teaching. Opportunities include early field-based experiences, conducting and running sectionals with university ensembles, job-shadows with current teaching professionals at festivals and contests, attending NMEA convention, and taking part in a vibrant student-led Music Ed chapter. This practical approach is built on a solid foundation of applied lessons, keyboard and aural skills, theory, music history, and conducting. You receive the full requirements of a Music Ed. certification that you would at any university, plus the unique experiences and individual attention of a small college, which will make you more appealing to schools during the interview process.
