You Don’t Have to be Perfect to be Amazing
“Don’t be afraid to chase after your dreams,” is something Mindy Wittig would tell her younger self if she had the opportunity. After transferring to Midland University from Barton Community College to continue her career in cheer, Mindy is doing just that.
Following a virtual tour where she had the opportunity to speak with students, teachers, and coaches, Mindy came to the realization that Midland was where she wanted to be. After graduating with an AS in Business from Barton, Mindy made the decision to transfer to Midland in an effort to continue her academic and cheering career.
Mindy has already begun to find her decision to continue her academic journey rewarding. She has discovered enjoyment in the new skills she has learned, and she’s also finding out what it takes to be a Warrior. “Being a Warrior means to be bold, strong, to make a difference, and to spread happiness.”
Outside of the classroom, Mindy enjoys working on stunt and tumble…and also taking the time to watch the latest on Netflix. When she makes her daily Starbucks run, her go-to is almost certainly a Pink Drink and while she will most definitely be listening to country music on the way.
Mindy says the best piece of advice she has ever received is that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing. Perfection adds too much pressure to life and to only strive toward that can lead to a sense of dissatisfaction in your ability. Instead, she believes we should all recognize that we still have the capacity to find success, even in imperfection. With that mindset, she encourages freshmen to get involved right away in order to surround themselves with like-minded people. “Get involved and don’t be afraid to talk to new people. That’s how you make friends.”
