Always With a Smile
“Smile, even if you are not feeling good.” Miguel Abete tries to keep to this mentality as he goes about his daily life. He believes that if you smile, even if things aren’t going your way, you feel better, even if it is for a moment.
As a student, Miguel has always tried to find a strong balance. On campus, he participates in tennis and works at the school cafeteria, on top of having three majors. Though he feels he still has a lot to prove as a tennis player, Miguel is proud of what he has accomplished academically while balancing his workload.
Miguel is majoring in business management, marketing, and psychology. After graduation, he wants to make sure he keeps his options open as he searches for that perfect fit.
“I want to be a psychologist, but before that, I want to try many other jobs to see what I like the most. My dream job is something where I have fun working, and I do not wake up in the morning thinking that I have to go to work. I want to be excited to go to work.”
For Miguel, being a Warrior means being committed to what you set out to do. Whether it is in academics, work, or on the tennis court — having the drive to put your best work forward is how he views his role as a Warrior.
“Fight every day. Wake up knowing that today is another day to give 100 percent, no matter what is going on. I like to give my best all the time, but it is not an easy task to accomplish.”
As a senior, Miguel urges freshmen to consider their future beyond their years in college as they begin their Midland journey. So much time is spent focusing on the present, but it is important to make sure that what you are doing right now is setting yourself up for a future you can be excited about.
“Take some extra time to decide where you see yourself working in four years. Don’t just look at the classes that all the majors have, but think about the job opportunities you will have with your college degree. Also, spend time by yourself to learn more and more about who you are and why you are here in this world.”
