Midland University to Celebrate Alumni and Friends During Homecoming Weekend
Midland University will recognize several outstanding alumni, one distinguished family, and the Impact Award recipient during the Alumni and Awards Legacy Brunch on Sunday, October 22nd at the Wikert Event Center as part of Homecoming weekend.
Ann (Albrecht) Prince ‘91 is receiving the Alumni Achievement Award. Prince is a physical education teacher at Grandview Middle School in the Elkhorn School District and serves as the girls basketball coach at Elkhorn North High School. In her three years as coach, Prince has guided the Wolves to three consecutive Class B state titles, accumulating a 72-4 record along the way.
Prince was a member of the Warrior women’s basketball team during her collegiate days and later served as an assistant to legendary coach Joanne Bracker.
Dr. Quincy Johnson ‘16, is being honored with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Johnson currently serves as an assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Kansas. During his time at Midland, Johnson founded the Midland Powerlifting Club, setting the stage for Midland powerlifting to evolve into one of the elite programs in the country.
Midland is honoring Dale Olson with the Impact Award. Olson graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and would later co-found Valmont Industries, where he served as an engineer for 38 years. Olson also serves on the board of directors for RVR Bank (formerly First State Bank & Trust) and as president of Fern and Dale Inc.
Olson and his wife, Fern, became heavily involved in the Fremont community over the years. The Olson family’s contributions to Midland over the years have helped fund the Refounding of Midland University, Olson Student Center, Olson Village Apartments, as well as helping with the renovation of the dining hall in 2017 and numerous other projects across campus.
The McMahon family is being recognized with the Distinguished Family Award. The family has a 45-year history with Midland University, beginning with Jim McMahon serving as cross country and track and field coach and professor for nearly 40 years.
During his tenure, Jim’s teams won 50 conference titles in the two sports and he coached 24 NAIA All-Americans. His 1989 women’s indoor track and field squad captured the NAIA National Championship.
Karen McMahon worked as an administrative assistant in the athletic department for 26 years. Jim and Karen had three sons, Chris ‘94, Sean ‘96, and Kyle ‘04, who each graduated from Midland. Sean’s wife, Beth (Parr) ‘00, also graduated from Midland while Kyle’s wife, Rebecca (Meyer) attended Midland. Sean and Beth’s son, Ross, is a two-time NAIA All-American in the high jump and will graduate from Midland in May.
