Midland University Offers Unprecedented $1.33 Million to State’s Leading Students

05/03/19

Midland University and the Miss Nebraska Organization have announced the expansion of a partnership that will provide up to 15 young women with college scholarships, both for undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The Miss Nebraska program, the official preliminary competition to the Miss America Organization, provided all candidates in 2018 with both cash and in-kind college scholarships to further their educations. Midland University has added to that offer in 2019, offering every candidate a $20,000 annual, renewable scholarship; a $25,000 annual, renewable scholarship for each Top 5 finalist; and a full-ride scholarship for the new Miss Nebraska 2019, estimated at approximately $136,000. Midland is also offering graduate program scholarships to all candidates.

“We are always looking for opportunities to partner with reputable organizations that hold similar core values as Midland,” said Merritt Nelson, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing. “This partnership will provide talented students with the opportunity to continue their education and leadership development at the highest level.”

Miss Nebraska 2018 Jessica Shultis, a cancer survivor from Dannebrog, Nebraska, recently earned her Master of Arts in Management degree, work completed while also competing at the 2019 Miss America competition, where she was named a Top 10 finalist on the nationally televised event. Former Miss Nebraska’s include award-winning broadcasters, doctors, business owners, and educators. Many note they were able to earn their college degrees debt-free thanks to scholarships earned through participation in the Miss Nebraska program.

“Our number one mission is to help our state’s brightest young women achieve their personal and career goals,” said Megan Doughty, Co-Executive Director of the Miss Nebraska program and Scholarships Chair. “Midland University is helping us put these women on a firm path of success, empowering them to become leaders and role models throughout Nebraska and our country.”

The 2019 Miss Nebraska Competition will take place June 2-8, 2019 in North Platte, Nebraska. For more information, photos, and interview requests, please visit www.missnebraska.org or email marketing@missnebraska.org
