Midland University Hits Record Enrollment Numbers for 2024-25 Academic Year

10/14/24

Through a diverse set of programs and partnerships, Midland University is celebrating record enrollment numbers for the 2024-25 academic year.

Student enrollment has escalated to 1,724 students for the 2024-25 academic year.

Innovative partnerships, including one with Opportunity Education for educators in Tanzania, as well as other professional training partnerships and new programs such as Midland’s doctoral program, have helped fuel the university’s growth.

“This is the most diverse population of students we have seen at Midland University,” said Jody Horner, President of Midland University. “We are excited to continue to offer exciting and relevant opportunities to both our undergraduate students, as well as our adult learners who are looking to further their education and careers. Serving such a wide range of students is another example of carrying out our mission to inspire others to learn and lead in the world with purpose.”

Midland undergraduate students hail from 44 different states and 32 countries, both the highest numbers in the school’s history. Midland’s diversity is revealed in 34 percent of its students identifying as coming from a diverse background and one-third of Midland undergraduate students are first-generation college students.

While Midland’s growth has been strong across the globe, it also stays true to its roots as 54 percent of the student base comes from Nebraska.

Boasting the largest athletic program in Nebraska with 33 varsity sports, students who are at Midland on an athletic scholarship make up more than 80 percent of the student population. Nearly 10 percent are at Midland on an arts scholarship while honors program students and those attending on a presidential scholarship make up the final 10 percent.

“We have four scholarship pathways that allow our students to gain financial support through extracurricular activities, as well as their work in the classroom,” said Lori Ethier, Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing. “Over 90 percent of our students are active in athletics, arts, or student organizations and we’re proud of the ways this adds to their experience at Midland”

Midland is seeing growth in its adult learning thanks to unique partnerships with Opportunity Education, other local organizations, school districts and businesses. Through the partnership with Opportunity Education, teachers in Tanzania are able to earn certificates from Midland as educational trainers and coaches. That professional development has allowed those educators to grow both personally and professionally, gaining a better understanding of student-mentor relationships, classroom management strategies, and improving the collaboration between teachers and administration.

“We are very proud of the different demographics we have been able to reach through these partnerships,” Ethier said. “We are working to meet the needs of the marketplace through customized training and we are passionate about expanding further areas of growth through these types of partnerships with local businesses and beyond.”
