The Midland University Honors Program team earned multiple awards at the Washburn University Leadership Challenge Event March 3-4 in Topeka, Kan.
Ten universities from five states took part in the event, which featured a competition where students practiced leadership skills they would use when navigating challenges in the real world. This year’s competition focused on an environmental disaster caused by a wastewater leak at a manufacturing plant. Students participated in a live press conference, answered emails, addressed concerns through live role-plays, and researched the short and long-term implications of an environmental crisis.
Midland placed third in the overall competition behind the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Wartburg College. Midland earned first-place finishes in the Collaboration and Transformation categories.
Members of the Midland team were Colby Tichota, Morgan Siebert, Kari VanNostrand, Jasmin Ballesteros, and Salem Scobee.
