Lexie Glosser | Faces of Midland

Sports are a Way of Life |

Athletics have been a big part of Lexie Glosser’s life. The Midland University senior hopes that will continue when she begins looking at careers.

Lexie, a Digital Marketing major from Fremont, Nebraska, has been competing in sports for most of her life. It began on the tennis and basketball courts when she was young and continued into her college career. She spent her first season at Midland on the tennis team but was missing basketball. During her sophomore year, she tried to give both sports a try but found time management to be difficult. That’s when she decided to commit full-time to the basketball team.

“Basketball was a sport I played since I was young and I guess I always had a dream of playing in college. I started with tennis because I really wanted to play for (former coach) Bruno (Campos), but after a year, I really missed basketball. I tried doing both, but I was committing about six hours each day to practice or working out, so I decided to switch to basketball.”

She completed her final season with the Warriors last month, but even though her playing days may be over, she wants to remain involved in athletics as she prepares for the next chapter of her life. “I guess my ideal job would be to work for a big sports company, like Nike, and work in marketing. I would enjoy anything where I could be working with athletes, whether through NIL deals or athlete branding. I believe my marketing classes have prepared me for my next steps in life.”

Her interest in Digital Marketing spiked when she met with Dr. Nick Schreck, Interim Dean for the Dunklau School of Business, during a visit to Midland. “I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in college, then I met with Nick, and he introduced me to Digital Marketing. That’s one of the things that sold me on coming here.”

Lexie moved to Fremont when she was 13, so she had knowledge of Midland and made several visits during her high school career. “I had friends who didn’t want to come to Midland because they didn’t want to go to college in the same town they grew up in, but I never had that stigma. I knew about Midland, and once I learned more about the programs, I thought it was a good fit. I didn’t want to get too far away for college, and I really liked the smaller classes.”

Beyond the athletic field, Lexie has been involved across campus in FCA, Cardinal Key Honor Society, and Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She has lived at home during her four years in college, but being part of various organizations has kept her connected. “Getting involved has given me the college experience, even while living at home. Being involved with teams and organizations has helped me build friendships and given me many opportunities to meet people.”

She has another connection at Midland, a relationship that has spanned her entire life. Lexie’s mother, Rikkel, works in Student Billing and is there to lend support or sustenance whenever called upon. “If I ever need something, like someone to talk to or maybe a snack, I know I can go to the second floor. I like talking to the people in her office, and they all know what’s going on in my life, so it’s been cool to build those relationships.”

The relationships are what matter most to Lexie as she enters the final months of her time at Midland. “I’m going to remember the people the most. I never realized how inclusive Midland is, and it’s been so cool to meet so many people from different countries. It’s the relationships and the connections that will always stay with me.”
