A Lifetime of Teaching
From the time she was young, Jenny Murnane-Rainey was destined to become a teacher.
“My mom was an elementary school teacher, and I grew up helping her make bulletin boards, correct papers, stock the classroom prize box, and come up with creative ideas of engaging students to learn. I’ve basically been an educator my entire life.”
For the past two years, Jenny has been sharing those skills with her students at Midland University, teaching Management and Finance. While it was her mom who planted the seeds to become an educator, it is the students at Midland who have helped that passion grow. “I have been teaching for 20 years at various colleges and universities, and I have never met more kind, considerate, respectful, and appreciative students than I have at Midland. They challenge me to be a better teacher every day.”
She wants to challenge those same students not to be afraid when a new opportunity approaches. “I want students to always be open to new opportunities and don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable. The best experiences for growth come from stepping outside of your comfort zone and embracing the unknown.”
Jenny also has a passion for music and performs with a rock cover band (Jacked) and is part of an acoustic guitar duo (Double Treble). She also likes to find time for running, swimming, crocheting, watching movies, and reading.
