Meet Our Faculty
The faculty in the Master of Science in Learning and Talent Development program are experts in their field with a proven track record of leadership. They bring real-world experiences and examples to the classroom and help students apply skills using authentic projects that can be applied within your current organization.
Jamie Kelly’s “why” is to connect people and ideas, creating experiences where we can each be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
Her field of work is primarily centered on Organizational Development, strengthening culture and engagement, individual coaching, group coaching (Circles), leadership development, and succession planning. Jamie’s coaching work is primarily focused on transition coaching – specifically helping others prepare for job transition and retirement. Her consulting work is focused mainly on Emergenetics, specifically assisting others to see the bigger picture while focusing on individual and collective/team strengths and aligning their work for maximum impact.
Jamie has her M.S. in Organizational Performance. She has earned her coaching credential as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) by the International Coaching Federation, is an Advanced Emergenetics Associate, was a Gallup Strengths Performance Coach, and a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD). She is also certified in The Leadership Circle’s 360-degree assessment. She continues to build professional experience in coaching, organization development, leadership, and facilitation – fields she has worked in since 1997.
Jamie lives in Omaha with her husband Sean and their three children, Maeve, Fletcher, and Vaughn.
Dr. Spencer Mathews has served as an adjunct instructor in the Master of Science in Adult and Organizational Learning program at Midland University since 2015. His primary teaching load includes Foundations of Adult Learning, Understanding Educational Research, and Cultural Foundations of Adult Learning.
Currently, Dr. Mathews is the Early College Academy Coordinator for the Council Bluffs Community School District. Previously, Dr. Mathews served in multiple Academic Advising and Residence Life leadership roles at Iowa Western Community College, Bellevue University, and Creighton University. In addition to Midland University, Dr. Mathews has also taught both graduate and undergraduate-level courses at the University of South Dakota, College of Saint Mary, Iowa Western Community College, and Bellevue University. His research interests include the impact of restorative sanctions on recidivism rates among adjudicated community college students, leadership development of undergraduate students, and interdependent relationships between ethical behavior and leader effectiveness.
Dr. Mathews received his BA and MA in History from the University of Northern Iowa, MS in Counseling from Creighton University, an EdD in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota. His dissertation explored how harmed parties at two American public universities experienced Restorative Justice Circles.
Dr. Tammy Madsen’s education includes an MBA from the University of Phoenix, a Graduate Certificate in Human Resources, a second Graduate Certificate in Positive Psychology, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2014, Dr. Madsen completed a dissertation on leadership and civic engagement and earned a Doctorate of Education from Walden University.
Dr. Madsen’s career started in 1994 by managing and training employees and transitioned into a career of teaching in higher education in 2008. Dr. Madsen teaches adult learners from the associate to doctoral level in the disciplines of education, business management, organizational behavior, human resources, and adult learning. Dr. Madsen is passionate about teaching and jumps at every opportunity to learn from and with students.
Mary Ball, Ed. D. is an educator who has 20 years of teaching experience in K-12, community college, and university settings. As an instructional designer, she has designed and developed engaging, learner-centric materials for educational and training purposes. She actively shares her passion and experiences for using technology tools with faculty.
Dr. Ball earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and Distance Learning from the University of Phoenix. In 2014, she completed her dissertation on instructional technology and earned a Doctorate in Higher Education and Adult Learning from Walden University.
