2 Corinthians 5:7
Alex France always knew that he wanted to attend Midland University and run on the cross country team. What he didn’t know is that by the time he would get to college, he would be legally blind due to a rare eye disease.
Alex was recruited by Midland and with the help of his guide runner, he has become a key member of the cross country and track teams. Running isn’t the only reason he chose to come to Midland, however.
“I came to Midland because it’s where my family is and because I wanted to run as well as find a place to grow in my faith.”
Alex grows in his faith on campus by getting involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Crew. When he can find a bit of free time, he likes to play guitar, jam out to I’ll Keep On by NF, and hang out with friends.
During his time at Midland, he’s most proud of qualifying for the NAIA National Meet in the half marathon. Alex and his guide runner, Tim Grundmayer, have built an incredible bond and after graduation, they hope to compete at the Paralympics in France in 2024. He also hopes to continue growing in his faith and find a career that allows him to spread the Gospel.
“Being a Warrior means that every day I get to go to a school that will help me achieve my goals not only academically and athletically, but also spiritually.”
Alex offers freshmen one piece of advice as they start their second semester of college: get plugged in, join groups, and get involved. Campus is full of wonderful resources for students; it would be an absolute shame for them to not be utilized. Getting involved will not only enhance your overall college experience, but it will also introduce you to a world of endless opportunities.
