Timing is Everything
Life can truly be all about timing. At least it was for Adrienne McIntire.
Like many others, Adrienne faced the challenge of discovering where her place was in life. She found it through esports.
“I wasn’t a great student and had a hard time finding things that held my interest. I got into esports, particularly Overwatch, because the concept of outthinking my opponents and coming up with real-life strategies in a constantly changing game has been an exciting challenge for me. I never saw myself working in higher education, but it happened that collegiate esports was blowing up by the time I had gained the experience to lead a team.”
Adrienne has been Midland’s Director of Esports since June of last year. Although she has spent less than a year on campus, she values what Midland has to offer. “Midland is a lot bigger than my previous school, but I like that the community is so welcoming and genuinely excited to see growth and development in other departments.”
She hopes to share those same development skills and values with her team. “My favorite thing is seeing my players apply what I’ve taught them in a team environment to daily life. You miss every shot you don’t take. If students want to do something, don’t let doubt get in the way of trying.”
As a coach for esports, Adrienne has found a way to turn her hobby into a career. As for other outside interests, she likes coming to home athletic events and also spends time with the many animals she has at home.
