Accounting is often called the language of business. The Midland accounting program helps students learn and apply the language of business and prepares graduates for a variety of careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, government accounting, and related financial services careers such as banking. The accounting program includes a required internship to allow students to apply their skills, make employer connections, and gain valuable experience. To graduate from Midland, students must complete 120 credit hours, but accounting majors are encouraged to prepare for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, which requires the completion of 150 credit hours.
The accounting program at Midland focuses on developing problem-solving skills, including a strong emphasis on technology use. Students learn how software is used to perform essential business functions such as operating a general ledger system, preparing tax returns, and using data analytics to solve business problems. The accounting program develops the financial skills sought by employers, and Midland accounting graduates have experienced a high degree of success in the job market.
