The Numbers All Add Up
Aaron Langmeier, a senior Accounting major from Schuyler, Nebraska, chose Midland University for its close-knit community and the opportunity to play basketball. Along the way, he found his passion for business, setting him on a path toward a career in accounting.
Coming out of high school, Aaron was looking for a college where he could pursue a career in architecture and also have a chance to play collegiate basketball. “I was weighing my options, and Midland being close to home was something that I really valued. I kind of changed gears on what I wanted to major in after deciding to come here.”
He also liked the smaller class sizes Midland offered, and felt like an easy transition from high school to college because the class sizes were about the same. “It wasn’t 200 people in a lecture hall, where I show up to class and don’t really know anyone or my professors. At Midland, I know I can go in to see my professors whenever I need to, and that’s really helpful.”
Aaron changed courses from architecture to Biology as his major during his freshman year as a pre-med. But those plans would change again as he began to look at a career in business. “I decided I didn’t want to take the MCAT, so I wanted to change my major and knew I was going into business. After talking to some people and learning about the accounting program here at Midland, I decided that was going to be the best fit for me.”
Aaron said his professors have been a huge help in his success and have sent out helpful information about possible internships and job openings. “It’s really great that they are trying to help us find these opportunities.”
Aaron also said the professors are good at preparing them for real-world experiences and prepping them for the workforce. “The professors are really great about finding ways that they can incorporate really specific details about tax and audit things and helping translate those into how you would use those on these other software.”
Aaron participated in basketball for his first three years at Midland but stopped playing to focus more on internships and gain experience. Aaron has also been an Admissions Ambassador and part of the Howard Hanson Honors Program.
After graduation, Aaron plans on working for Lutz, an accounting firm in Omaha, in their audit department.
