Curriculum & Learning Environment
Students who enter the Walker School of Education’s Three to Teach Program will benefit from the following: integrated content, courses designed for working professionals, individualized instructional coaching, and performance-based assessment.
Coursework
The objective of the Three to Teach Program is to provide coursework, support, and coaching for prospective educators to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the requirements of Nebraska Teacher Certification. The program does not require an undergraduate degree.
Midland’s objectives include providing a program that meets and exceeds the expectations of the Nebraska Department of Education’s INTASC standards and Midland’s teacher education program ideals and goals. Midland’s program commits to learning and learner-centered experiences and provides opportunities for teacher candidates to collaborate, participate in synchronous and asynchronous courses that are integrated, year-round courses, and receive performance-based feedback.

Program Advising
Once candidates are selected, they will meet with a Three to Teach Program Advisor to determine their needs for general education coursework. Students who come into the program must meet our general education requirement of college credits.
Integrated Content
Candidates need to experience teaching and learning in the same ways in which we want them to teach. Effective teaching requires the integration of pedagogy, content standards, classroom management, and assessment, among others. In this program, candidates will meet Nebraska INTASC course standards within integrated courses, making connections between topics, experiences as paras in the classrooms, and their own school experiences.
This innovative approach to education has candidates learning through core and methods courses, to create opportunities for candidates to weave all of these experiences together. This allows collaboration between candidates, professors, and classroom teachers to provide authentic teaching and learning experiences. This enables candidates to learn more efficiently and quicker than a traditional learning model.
Designed for Working Professionals
Candidates will pursue a full-time course load by attending online courses. Courses are held in synchronous (i.e., in real time) and asynchronous (i.e., allows students to complete coursework on their own throughout each week) formats.
